Ingredients
- 1 pound boiler onions, peeled
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup water or broth
Instructions
- Melt butter with olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add peeled boiler onions and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Sprinkle sugar, salt, and pepper over onions.
- Pour in water or broth, reduce heat to low, and cover.
- Simmer for 20 minutes until onions are tender and caramelized.
- Uncover and cook for 5 more minutes to reduce any remaining liquid.
Notes
- Peel onions under running water for easier removal of skins.
- Stir gently to keep onions intact while cooking.
- For deeper flavor, cook uncovered longer for more caramelization.
