Description
A classic shepherd’s pie made with ground beef, vegetables, and a mashed potato topping. Hearty and comforting.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion, carrots, and garlic. Cook until softened.
- Stir in tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add peas and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Transfer the beef mixture to a baking dish.
- Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top. Sprinkle with cheese.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Substitute ground lamb for a traditional shepherd’s pie.
- Use leftover mashed potatoes to save time.
- Freeze leftovers for up to 3 months.
