Description

A classic shepherd’s pie made with ground beef, vegetables, and a mashed potato topping. Hearty and comforting.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion, carrots, and garlic. Cook until softened.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Add peas and cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Transfer the beef mixture to a baking dish.
  7. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top. Sprinkle with cheese.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

  • Substitute ground lamb for a traditional shepherd’s pie.
  • Use leftover mashed potatoes to save time.
