A homemade version of the classic breakfast pastry with a savory twist.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup cooked and crumbled bacon
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Mix flour and salt in a bowl.
- Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water until the dough comes together.
- Divide dough into two equal parts and roll each into a rectangle.
- Sprinkle cheese and bacon over one rectangle.
- Place the second rectangle on top and press edges to seal.
- Cut into smaller rectangles and crimp edges with a fork.
- Brush with egg wash and bake at 375°F for 20 minutes.
Notes
- Chill dough for 30 minutes before rolling for easier handling.
- Customize fillings with ingredients like ham or spinach.
