Description
Crispy Taiwanese popcorn chicken is a popular street food snack with juicy, flavorful bites coated in a crunchy crust.
Ingredients
- 500g boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice wine
- 1 tsp five-spice powder
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 cup sweet potato starch
- 1 cup neutral oil for frying
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp chili powder (optional)
Instructions
- Marinate chicken with garlic, soy sauce, rice wine, five-spice powder, white pepper, and sugar for 30 minutes.
- Coat each piece evenly with sweet potato starch.
- Heat oil to 180°C (350°F) in a deep pan.
- Fry chicken in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Sprinkle with salt and chili powder before serving.
